The Deer | Austin TX

The Deer have hit the Austin music scene hard this year as featured guests on Austin’s KUTX, Runners-Up for the Austin Music Awards, and finalists in the Austin Music Industry Award for Best Album Art. Kevin Curtin of the Austin Chronicle says their “third disc Tempest & Rapture now nails down [The Deer's] sonic signature; an enchanting bouquet of dream-folk and earthy indie rock with nocturnal impulses and chamber music complexity. It fuses to the local [Austinites'] breezy vocalist."

Original members include vocalist Grace Park, upright bassist/songwriter Jesse Dalton, guitarist/sound engineer Michael McLeod, and drummer/pianist Alan Eckert. Together they combine the Southern Gothic soul they’ve had all along with new cross-genre inspiration.

The Deer encompasses the innovation of the modern indie-folk revival and the cross-pollination of Austin’s diverse music scene. Described as transcendental Texas folk and stargaze surf-western, The Deer creates psychotropic soundscapes and tranquil, vivid dream-pop. In 2016’s release, Tempest & Rapture, The Deer marry their brand of moody Americana with rapturous psychedelia, like two wings of one soaring bird.

The Deer have played Austin’s historic Moody Theater and the Legendary Stubb’s, as well as festivals like Kerrville Folk Festival, Old Settler’s Music Festival, Utopiafest, and Oregon Country Fair. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have them close the first ever LivelyLands Music Festival.
